The NBA Developmental League is now the NBA Gatorade League

It was announced today that the NBA was changing the name and logo of its developmental league from D-League to the G-League. This is an exclusive partnership between the NBA and Gatorade that will allow the drink maker to have a partnership in everything from how the players in the league will no be trained to the primary branding rights.

What are your thoughts on the partnership? Do you like the name change and the logo redesign?

Unless it was part of the negotiation, the NBA still could have continued to use the previous logo and name — the premise of the league is to “develop” players — but introduce the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) as the league-wide training partner and while adding the Gatorade branding to all of the league’s and team’s marketing and P/R.
