The most anticipated City Championship game became a rout as the Cass Tech Technicians destroyed the Martin Luther King Crusaders 41-20 and proved that they were the real kings of the city.

The Technicians wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. After the defense held King on their opening possession, senior quarterback Rodney Hall found senior wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones on a 55-yard pass, that put Cass up 6-0. Senior kicker Luis Borjas connected on the extra point to put Cass up 7-0.

On their next possession, the Technicians showed that they were here to run over the Crusader, as Hall scampered 40- yards to the end zone to add 6 more points to the Technicians lead. Borjas hit another extra point and it was 14-0 Cass.

Hall showed that he hadn’t forgotten the 2 losses that Cass had against King last year and rushed 2-yards on a quarterback keeper to put the Technicians up 21 heading into halftime.

After the break, Hall continued to pound on the Crusaders defense as he sprung free for a 5-yard run for a touchdown to make the score 28-0

This score must have woke up King’s offense as the Sophomore Quarterback Dequan Finn hit senior wide receiver Ambry Thomas for a 37-yard strike for King’s first touchdown on the evening.

Cass Kicker Borjas decided it was time to introduce the world to his kicking leg as he hit a 39-yard field goal and a 46-yarder to put the Technicians in the driver’s seat 34-6.

The Crusaders didn’t stop fighting , as Finn found Thomas again for a 13-yard touchdown pass. He again found Thomas in the end zone for the 2-point conversion to make the score 34-14.

The Technicians  Peoples-Jones took the ensuing onside kick 40-yards to the end zone to put Cass up 41-14.

King’s Thomas wasn’t ready to give up the fight as he caught another 29-yard pass from Finn for another Crusader touchdown. But it was too little too late as Cass held a 41-20 lead.

Both teams now much wait until Sunday to find out who and where they will be playing in the state playoffs. King finishes the season at 6-2 and Cass Tech  will go into the Playoffs with a perfect 8-0 record.
