We are only a few weeks away from the start of the 2015 College football season and athletic departments across the nation are taking to social media to promote their respective programs. Some have been witty and others have been clever, but one in particular was down right disrespectful considering its recent issues within its football program.
Is that so?
And allegedly neither did the four former Vanderbilt football players who were charged with raping a female student back in June of 2013. Because of a recent mistrial, two of the players Cory Batey and Brandon Vandenburg are awaiting a new trial, while Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie and Brandon Banks still have yet to go to trial.
There are still questions being asked of the university and former head coach James Franklin in regards to how much they know and their involvement, so to see this image be okayed by the media department shows insensitivity and poor taste — and makes some wonder if there a culture of this behavior on the campus that we don’t know about?
Even if it was a mistake, this is why you have a social media editor to cross-check everything that represents the university. And if they don’t have someone in that role, they better hire someone quickly.
