The Michigan Wolverines head into the final stretch of the Big Ten regular season looking for any type of momentum in what many would call a disappointing 2014-15 season. Upset defeats and season ending injuries have dimmed out what was originally thought to be another tournament-bound team for head coach John Beilein. The first glimmer of hope in salvaging the season came in yesterday’s 64-57 upset victory over bitter rival the Ohio State University. Despite being underdogs the youthful Wolverines — their current roster is comprised of two juniors and eight under-classmen — found a way to get past the No. 23 ranked Buckeyes which had defeated the U-M by 19 in the previous match-up this season.
The next spark may come from an unlikely source — uniforms. They saying goes when you look better you tend to play better and Wolverine fans got a glimpse of what the team will be wearing in the conference tournament when national recording artist and Detroit, MI native Big Sean was seen at the Crisler Center wearing a pinstripe script Michigan Jersey.
The saying goes when you look better you play better and while the jersey is a contrast to the traditional uniforms many fans are used to seeing, it is something that has received positive reviews. Unfortunately the shorts do not get the same seal of approval (in my opinion). There just seems to be too much white when you consider that the jersey does not have the same amount. Either they should have added the white side panel to the jersey or made the panel on the shorts thinner.
Despite not playing with its two best players, Caris Levert and Derrick Walton Jr., the young team made a big statement for the future of the program with the upset, and maybe the new uniforms — along with the continued improved play — will be the thing that leads the Wolverines to a good showing in the conference tournament which could land them a berth in the NIT.
The jersey can be purchased the M-Den website.
